
Janice's Biography
Janice was born in Tokyo, Japan as the youngest daughter of a family father was a respected politician. Her
parents often took their children to see international art. Also, the family visited their country house near Mt. Fuji
year round where wild flowers and animals can be seen.
When Janice was about 3 years old, she began to spend time at home studio of Yasuko Okamoto, a Japanese
brush artist. She continued to enjoy creativities under the Okamoto’s personal guide until she finished high school.
In the Women’s College of Fine Arts, she studied oil painting and lithography. When she became a sophomore, she
began to feel the contradiction in oil painting and began to study lithography. Under the supervision of lithographer
Fumio Tamura, she produced many lithograph prints throughout the next few years. Her works were selected to the
Japan Printmaking Association for competition.
In the late 70s, Janice came to the U.S. for her advanced lithography study. She attended graduate courses at the
San Francisco Art Institute. She found out that the process of essential printmaking has limited her exploring feeling.
She began once again returned to oil painting. She decided to go back to Japan.
In the early 80s, Janice settled in San Jose, CA. She started working at firms for living. Regardless of her
environment changed, her passion to Art continued. She made time to paint every day and produced many
paintings. Her paintings were constantly exhibited through around the country.
Janice was very much influenced by the color of Diego Rivera, the theme of Yoshitoshi, and the sketches of Picasso.
She also loves humorous Arts called Asobie made in the history of Japan, Edo period. She has continued to create a
painting coexisting people and natures in optical illusion way.
Her oil paintings have been displayed in various juried exhibitions nationally and internationally. For Janice, art is a
lifelong friend cheerfully playing together with Artists and Viewers.
